A man will appear in court today after he allegedly broke in and stole money and possessions from a 91-year-old war veteran yesterday.About 4.30pm Monday March 5 the 91-year-old man was sleeping inside his home on Rowe Street, Greystanes, when he woke to find a man standing at the end of his bed.
It’s alleged the man stole the veteran’s wallet and keys before fleeing the home.
Police were called to the premises where a statement was taken, giving a good description of the man.
Officers then attended a nearby service station and viewed closed circuit camera footage that ultimately led to the arrest of a 36-year-old man.
He was charged at Merrylands Police Station with aggravated break and enter, and goods in custody.
Further investigations led police to a two metre deep drain on the corner of Grose and Church Streets in Parramatta where they retrieved the 91-year-old’s property, and other property believed to be the proceeds of recent break and enters.
The 36-year-old Greystanes man was refused bail and will appear in Fairfield Local Court today.
