The Staten Island brute who fatally hit his wife in the head with
a can of oven cleaner because she refused to splurge on cable TV while
he was hospitalized in 2010 has taken a no-jail plea deal, authorities
said.
Thomas Scala, 58, will be sentenced to five years’ probation for criminally negligent homicide under the deal struck Wednesday.
Scala’s 59-year-old spouse, Blanche, died because the wound she suffered during the fight in their New Dorp Beach home triggered bleeding from an old brain injury inflicted by Scala, law-enforcement sources said.
“The defendant’s guilty plea to the top charge against him brings some closure to a grueling ordeal for Blanche Scala’s family,” said a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.
