Dog found smothered to death with plastic bag taped over head

Police in Salem, Ohio, are investigating the death by suffocation of a dog that was discovered with a plastic bag duct-taped around its head.
The gruesome discovery was made one week ago today at around 2:20 p.m. by a man walking his own dog, which began to bark at a trash bag. The pet owner undid the tie and found the remains of the dead dog inside.
SalemNewsNet reports that the man phoned the police. They in turn arranged with a humane officer and the Columbiana County Dog Warden's Police to retrieve the animal, which was described as a young, large black Lab weighing approximately 100 pounds.
It was determined that the dog had just delivered a litter of pups. She had been dead for several days and had sustained no other injuries.
The animal was wearing a red collar with a blue cable tie that had been cut. These details helped connect the slain animal and its owner, who showed up at the police station on Saturday to identify the dog.
A resident of Salem, Alan Price, has announced a reward of $500 reward for information on the person(s) that killed the dog. Price has but requested that he be contacted directly at 330-692-3562 or at alanprice@sbcglobal.net.
Those with information may also call the Salem Police Department at 330-337-7811.
