Medical examiner: NC man died from head trauma after stun gun hit knocked him from bicycle
The report issued by the state Medical Examiner's Office said Roger Anthony, 61, fell off his bike after Officer John Turner shocked him on Nov. 22. Anthony hit his head on the pavement and died 20 hours later.
At the time, police say they received a call about a man riding a bicycle who may have been drunk. They say Anthony didn't respond to repeated demands from the officer to get off his bike prior to being shocked.
Anthony's relatives say he suffered from seizures and was hard of hearing.
The Daily Herald of Roanoke Rapids reported that Turner resigned from the Scotland Neck Police Department in December, according to Police Chief Joe Williams.
The State Bureau of Investigation was looking into the incident.
Halifax County District Attorney Melissa Pelfrey said she has received the autopsy report but has not had a chance to fully review it. Pelfrey said she hasn't decided on whether charges would be filed in Anthony's death.
