Police make arrest in attack involving machete, axe handle
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Metro police have made an arrest in a brutal attack that involved a machete and an axe handle.
27-year-old Cory Rucker was arrested Tuesday and charged with attempted murder with a deadly weapon, mayhem and conspiracy to commit murder.
Back on April 4, a victim identified as James Kalama – known as "Grumpy" – was found with a head injury and was bleeding profusely from a facial injury on Dodd Street near Boulder Highway and Tropicana Avenue.
Kalama's facial injury was so substantial a pool of blood had formed on the ground where he was found. According to a police report, Kalama's tattoos identify him as a member of the 28th Street gang.
Following a series of interviews, police identified Rucker and an accomplice, Sasha Lynn Segovia, as the primary suspects. Segovia has yet to be arrested.
The suspects are alleged to have used the weapons to strike Kalama in the head, body and right side of his face, causing him substantial blood loss. He was also left with a five-inch scar down the middle of his cheek, from ear to chin.
Kalama identified Segovia as the sister of his girlfriend.
