Hall was traveling westbound on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes on Loop 323 in front of Green Acres Bowl when the driver of the truck, identified as Michael Rose, 63, of Tyler was exiting out of the private drive of the bowling alley parking lot onto the Loop and struck the bicyclist.
Rose was unaware that he had struck the teenager until he had drug him down the road approximately 100 feet and stopped in the roadway.
Hall was taken to ETMC by EMS but died a short time after he arrived at the hospital.
TISD Superintendent Dr. Randy Reid sent a statement to local media about Hall's death:
"We are deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of Allen Hall, one of our Robert E. Lee High School students. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. We know this will be a difficult time for many of our students. Our school counselors will be available to help them cope with the loss of their classmate.”
Authorities on the scene say the teen who was hit by a vehicle was a bicyclist who was traveling down Loop 323 who was struck by a large truck turning out of Green Acres Bowling Alley.
The bicyclist, who is a Tyler ISD student, was dragged by the truck for about a block. He is now in critical condition at ETMC.
Accident investigators are on the scene to determine exactly what happened.
Tyler Police have confirmed they're at the scene of a wreck involving a vehicle and a person on Loop 323 between University and Troup Highway.
Reports indicate that the person struck was a teenager, but that detail is unconfirmed by the Tyler Police.
The wreck happened at about 8:40 am.
KETK has a crew on the scene and they'll have more details as they become available.
