Tiverton police charged a 17-year-old boy, of Tiverton, with reckless driving following an accident with an ATV vehicle late last month.
Lt. Patrick Jones said police responded to the area of Lawrence Court at 5:15 p.m., Friday, April 27 for a report of an ATV accident with injuries. Upon arrival, Jones said officers saw two boys bleeding from the head with injuries. They were transported to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence and were released on Tuesday, May 8.
After speaking to witnesses, officers learned the 17-year-old was reportedly operating the ATV erratically in the area of Lawrence Court and Main Road, according to Jones. One witness told police he saw the ATV coming toward him, then turn into a yard in the vicinity of 40 Lawrence Court. The ATV reportedly struck a large rock, causing the ATV to roll over several times. Jones said police learned there was a second juvenile on the ATV with the 17-year-old who was injured.
When the juveniles were released on May 8, Jones said, based on the witness statements and the investigation, the 17-year-old driver was charged with reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
