SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A summit on advantages of hiring a military veteran was held atWestern New England University Wednesday.
Over 70 local businesses attended the event, where there was discussion on best practices from leading companies who have pledged to hire veterans and active reservists.
Topics also addressed veteran-specific issues.
Thomas Belton, Sr. of Springfield’s Department of Veterans Services said that they want employers "To be able to come into their work place and not have this fear or perception of well, ‘am I bringing someone in here who has PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) or aTBI? (traumatic brain injury).’ Because there were folks who went through the tornado and other horrific events in their life and we never ask those folks those types of questions.”
Businesses looking to hire military veterans can contact the Veterans Administration or the veterans’ affairs officer in their city or town.
