A grant for $200,000 will be used to serve the six surrounding counties of Milwaukee and a grant for $300,000 will be used to serve Milwaukee, the agency said in a press release. The Center for Veterans Issues provides resources to veterans including transitional housing, education and vocational training and legal services. “The Department of Labor is taking an important step to help homeless veterans reintegrate into the American labor force,” said Labor Secretary Hilda Solis. “This is a complicated challenge that requires an ‘all hands on deck’ response. Our grantees span communities across the country, from the District of Columbia to Puerto Rico, and we salute them for their commitment to assist those who’ve served.” Eighty-nine percent of the people who seek the Center for Veterans Issues services are unemployed. Last year the Center for Veterans Issues received $1 million to combat veteran homelessness as a part of the Veterans Affairs Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program.

The U.S. Department of Labor said Tuesday that The Center for Veterans Issues, a Milwaukee nonprofit, will receive a total of $500,000 in grants from the Department of Labor’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program.
A grant for $200,000 will be used to serve the six surrounding counties of Milwaukee and a grant for $300,000 will be used to serve Milwaukee, the agency said in a press release.
The Center for Veterans Issues provides resources to veterans including transitional housing, education and vocational training and legal services.
