My Blog for Review As Family Education Tool After 6 Months
My Blog for Review As Family Education Tool After 6 Months
I have been blogging and maintaining my Brain Injury Awareness and Education FB Page, for going on 6 months now. In that time, I have made some life changing and life enhancing observations. I will share the following observations with you my readers as a 6th month over view based on all breaking news in the world regarding brain injury and PTSD and any and all things related to both.
1. Many of you are concerned about PTSD, I hope you or whoever you are researching for, gets all the help they need! I am blogging daily the latest and the greatest of all PTSD research and treatment options. Please keep those wonderful shares coming.
2. Talk to your teens about technology and driving......please make that a house rule. Threaten to check cell phone records during their driving time. Do whatever you can, as a parent or guardian to make sure they can see the very real dangers of texting and driving! I have seen numerous accidents with severe brain injury and deaths while driving and texting. Some cities are starting to make it into laws. But we don’t want the personal loss of an accident before that has time to be mandated. Statistically, it is the answer they will also find. When I had teens I only had to worry about the driving under the influence, which is huge but we all know the statistics on it. I felt compelled to tell you again about somehow enforcing the non texting when teens drive. I feel so much for parents today raising teens. If that doesn't work bring them to my blog. I spared no graphics. I realized the most important thing I can do with the surprise of this Brain Injury Awareness FB page is suggest as many prevention tips as possible. All of us wish we could push a button and go back to a split second in time when life changed forever for all of us and everyone who knew us, our family or our friends.
3. Watch your toddlers like a hawk. It is a never ending "check and make sure", nobody toddled out of your house, or one of the neighbors houses. Unfortunately unnoticed the "precious toddler" is standing behind your car. When you back up out of your driveway have counted heads in your car, and checked behind your car before you got in it!"CHECK AND MAKE SURE". would prevent many, many accidental deaths that are truly accidental. The pool is the other huge death trap for toddlers. Any walking baby is dependant on responsible adults to stay out of the reach of a swimming pool. The pain, loss and guilt would negatively impact your life forever! I have had two of my three children impacted by childhood accidents both of which were head injuries and a lacerated liver. I have spent countless nights in pediatric ICU units. I am a two time brain injury survivor. I know for a fact accidents and injuries happen in a split second, but effects the rest of our lives. We as adults need to slow down, safety first, safety first day in and day out.
4. Whether a tricycle, bicycle, motorcycle. or ATV you are asking for a head injury if you do not wear a helmet! I cannot plead with you enough to enforce this as another house rule for teens and parents alike.
5. If you notice you are getting angrier than usual, over finances especially, around your children please take a walk or some other preferential distraction, until you feel under control. The top two causes of child abuse reported in the past six months has been due to financial stress or PTSD.
6 If you know or suspect you have PTSD please I am pleading with you to get help somewhere from someone! We with PTSD are able to do unimaginable things when we are angry. We can be truly frightening. We really do statistically end up in prison. You have to learn everything you can. If you are displaying or suspicious of any of the PTSD symptoms, follow up and get help. Please!
7. It is summer and statistically more children get hurt. Think prevention and it will go a long way in decreasing brain injuries. Just being so well informed will prevent brain injuries. You sharing your knowledge with your friends will directly help prevent brain injuries and I want to personally thank you for being a messenger! If you already have a brain injury or are a family member or friend you can share your story everywhere you go. You are a beacon of hope in what is a pretty hopeless time in this worlds history.
8. Thanks for sharing this website with so many of your friends. Thank you for helping us get the word out about brain injury and PTSD. Thanks for the many comments left on the blog and the FB page. Together we will knock down the silent epidemic walls and people will know how truly special and unique this unknown group really is. They will also know how tuff the struggle really is. for all of us that journey this path. Until very recently, the reality of peoples lives like mine were totally either ignored or unknown. Denial is still the preferred way for family and friends to handle a brain injury, I am sorry to still report.
That is our 6 month overview I hope you learned something because I know thanks to many of you I certainly have learned a lot. Keep on sharing...please and so will we!
