Alveron Energy DBA Safebrain Systems - Leader in Concussion Detection Technology for Athletes -

CALGARY, Alberta, Jun 12, 2012 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) -- Alveron Energy Corp. DBA Safebrain Systems, AECP -12.28% (the "Company"), to provide results of clinical trials performed by Dr. Martin Mrazik, PhD. and presented at the Brain Care Centre Symposium at the Sutton Place Hotel in Edmonton on June 8th 2012, in conjunction with Brain Injury Awareness month.
Dr. Mrazik continues to oversee trial tests for Safebrain Systems. Dr. Mrazik has been working with athletes who have suffered from concussions for 15 years and has been a consultant with the National Hockey League and Canadian Football League since 2004, and with the North American Soccer League since 2011.
Epidemiological studies have shown that approximately 1 in 10 minor hockey players suffer a concussion during a given season. Results from more recent studies suggest this number could be significantly higher, more than double than previously determined.
Four teams participated in the study during the 2011-2012 competitive season. All athletes were fitted with the Safebrain C.I.A. units mounted onto hockey player's helmets. Preliminary results indicate that players who participated in the trial had taken an average of 14 hits to the head over a period of the competitive hockey season. "What becomes alarming is that most of these hits to the head were significant enough to register over 15 G's, but may not have been detected by the team manager or trainer without the Safebrain unit on their helmet," says Dr. Mrazik. "Further results indicate that 'heavy hitters' in select cases registered over 50 hits to the head with an impact exceeding 15Gs."
"Dr. Mrazik's preliminary results should be considered alarming to those who are leaders within sports organizations that oversee our youth," said Mike Scott, CEO of Safebrain Systems. "Without a detection device to register a hit that potentially creates a concussion, a secondary and much more severe future concussion is inevitable. In the future, we expect our units to be an integral part of youth in sports to avoid such a debilitating scenario," he adds.
Dr. Martin Mrazik, PhD, was the keynote speaker on June 8th in the area of concussions in sports - further information can be found at www.braincarecentre.com/?page_id=280 . He presented an overview of Safebrain System's state-of-the-art research that measures biomechanical forces associated concussions and what implications this research will have on the management of Sport Concussion management.
