The preliminary cause of death for an Alverton man who was in a swimming accident Wednesday is blunt-force trauma to the head, the Fayette County coroner ruled.
Alan Miller, 32, apparently dove into the Youghiogheny River near Ohiopyle and struck his head on a rock, said Stacie Hall, assistant park manager at Ohiopyle State Park. Toxicology results are pending after completion of an autopsy Thursday.
Onlookers pulled Miller out of the water, and he was transported to Highlands Hospital in Connellsville, where he was pronounced dead at 6:28 p.m.
Miller is from Jacksonville, Fla., and graduated from Terry Parker High School in 2001, according to his Facebook page.
